Summer Fiesta

When it comes to interior design and decorating, I’ve always been an indecisive type. I have a problem: I like too many things. I love so many styles that sometimes I can’t decide what I want to have at my home. In the ideal world, I would have at least three apartments/homes, each of them decorated differently and I would love them all. The real world, however, is never so much fun, so I can be happy that I have this one home of my own to decorate as I like.

Setting up a neutral tone for our rooms was a great step, it turns out. White walls (plus a black one), grey sofa, white floorboards and white furniture allow for quite a lot of experiments with the accessories every now and then. On Christmas, I can decorate it all red and green, in Summer, though, I can go even more crazy. There are three styles in particular that I love right now – the first is sea-side, marine, Mediterranean with stripes, blue, boats and neutrals all over the place. I realised, however, that installing it in a small flat in the centre of a not-seaside city would be, um, a bit weird, although it would make me feel like I’m on holiday every day. On the other side, there would be a big disappointment waiting for me behind the door every day, since there would still be no beach whatsoever.

The second style I like is cool Scandinavian. Botanic elements, plants, green, a lot of white, geometric patterns… I love it, but I decided it was a bit too tamed for me, maybe waiting for the time when I finally grow up. That hasn’t really happened yet, so I decided to go with my third preference – the Mexican/Spanish/Slovak crazy summer fiesta! Colours, pelicans, palm trees, pineapples, all the happy bright things. I know it might look a bit much, but my living room and my balcony are now officially my happy places. We got a palm tree, watching over us by the sofa and we named him Sancho. I took out all the colourful cushions, candles and flowers I could find and I’m still waiting for a perfect pineapple to put on the shelf. Most of the lovely colourful things came from F&F, but I also took out some older stuff that has been waiting for it’s time in the drawer 🙂 What do you think?
