I was looking forward to Oscars for months, partly because of the great films that competed for the golden statue, partly for the excitement of the red carpet fashion. I was excited to see Emma Stone, Lupita Nyong’o or Felicity Joney kill it at Oscars, but to tell the truth, the reality didn’t completely live up to my expectations. Thank God for these three girls though, I think they saved the Oscars fashion this year.
Besides Lupita, Felicity and Emma the Oscars 2015 red carpet was pretty boring. I was more amazed by the jewels and accessories than dresses in many cases (ehm, Kate Blanchet), which is saying something. The Oscars red carpet this year could be renamed to 50 Shades of White, with plenty of light dresses leading the way. The second ruling color seemed to be red, which looked amazing on Dakota Johnson and Rosamund Pike. However, I’m always happy when someone goes up a notch and goes her own way, like Emma Stone in a yellow-gold sparkly Elie Saab gown. I loved the emerald green of Scarlet Johanson’s dress as well, although I didn’t love the dress itself too much. Here is an overview:
If there was a perfect Oscar-worthy dress out there, Felicity Jones has found it. This Alexander McQueen gown was gorgeous – from color, through the cut to the details. Felicity was graceful, beautiful and fits into my favourite group of actresses who don’t need to play up they sexuality to be amazing.
Beautiful Lupita Nyong’o in a pearl white Calvin Klein Collection dress was a breath of fresh air at the Oscars (yet again). I really hope she gets invited next year, too, because she is an absolute red carpet pro! Go Lupita!
Say what you want about 50 Shades of grey, Dakota Johnson looked stunning at Oscars in a red Saint Laurent gown, red lips and sexy bangs. Without showing anything she was sexy and elegant at the same time.
I don’t usually like black, but this Rita Vinieris gown was just perfect for Oscars. Some actresses should maybe take a clue from Kelly Osbourne next time.
Anna Faris looked gorgeous in a silver Zuhar Muraid couture gown, don’t you think?
Beautiful Sienna Miller in a black Oscar de la Renta gown from its fresh-of-the-catwalk Fall 2015 collection.
Naomi Watts in a striking silver-black sparkly Armani Prive gown.
Yes. They’re both in my best dressed list – Eddie Radmayne with his lovely wife, who had a prettier dress than some of the nominees.
Sexy couple Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo looked flawless, as always.
A real-life (pregnant) fairy Keira Knightly chose a romantic Valentino dress. Lovely.
I have to admit, I expected something more „wow“ from Emma, and she amazed me more on the Goldren Globes this year, but the Elie Saab dress she chose is amazing and so is the colour. I loved the hair and make-up combination she chose to go with it, she looked like a real lady.
The „OK“ category
Gwyneth Paltrow looked pretty in a pale pink – big rose gown, but somehow I loved her earrings more.
I’m not going to slam Gaga for her red gloves. They’re hilarious, but they’re just „Gaga“. She wouldn’t be the same without them. Instead I’m going to praise her for the lovely white Azedine Alaia gown, which strangely made a wonderful lady out of her.
Anna Kendrick in a custom Thakoon dress. It fit perfectly and everything, but the color is so… blah. And I’m not that into the upper part of the dress, so it was just OK for me.
Anna Wintour as a movie red carpet bonus 😀
Maybe I would like Benedict Cumberbatch’s bride more if she didn’t marry him (and left him for…me?), but even now I have to admit her pregnancy style is pretty great. Husband is even better of course 🙂
Julienne Moore looked very charming in this sparkly Chanel dress. I’m not sure about the silhouette, but Julienne looked very beautiful nevertheless.
Reese Witherspoon went for her favourite black and white classic in a Tom Ford gown, which reminded me of her Oscars 2011 dress (similar style, inverse combination).
Beautiful Rosamund Pike in a red lacy dress.
Scarlet Johanson chose a great colour and a pretty dress, but I can’t shake the weird feeling from her boobs sticking out each in different direction :/
J. Lo showed how different a beautiful dress could look on a catwalk model and a sexy Latino woman. I loved the low cleavage on the dress originally, but it is a bit much with bigger breasts for me.
Jennifer looked stunning in this dress, but since there were so many of this colour, she was getting lost in the crowd little.
After so many white dresses I really wished Marion Cottilard would have chosen a different colour. I love Dior and I love unexpected shapes, but it could have been a little bit more flattering.
Cate Blanchet was probably my biggest disappointment. After the amazing last year Oscars she chose a simple black dress! I mean, Kate Blanchet. I fell asleep. The necklace saved it eventually, but still. A simple black dress.
Kerry Washington chanelling Olivia Pope a little in this white/champaigne gown.
Jessica could have looked so much better in a different colour. And a more flow-y dress.
My favourite guy couple 🙂
Not only is Nicole Kidman’s face hardly moving, she doesn’t even save her look with a dress. Terrible from fabric to colour.
Rita Ora doesn’t look bad in this Marchesa dress, but she looked much more fabulous in a black-and-white gown she wore for her Oscars performance.
