Amongst all the violent and bad things happening in the world these days it is nice to finally see something beautiful. Like Lupita Nyong’o. Or Benedict Cumbebatch, Leo Dicaprio and Matthew McConaughey in tuxedos. Or Anjelina Jolie with all her body parts very nicely covered and accompanied by (shaved!) Brad Pitt.
Oscars 2014 took place yesterday in Los Angeles and now we can dreamily enjoy (or drool on) all the wonderful fashion that went on on the Red Carpet before the ceremony and on the After Parties (double treat, specifically for the stars..). So, whose look do you love best? My absolute favourite is Lupita in her baby blue Prada dress – I really don’t think she could wear something more appropriate, beautiful and fitting on this occasion. I also love the Miu Miu dress she wore for an afterparty.
I loved a few other dresses, too, but I have to admit, some of the actresses were a little dissapointment to me. Read the comments beneath the photos to find out more 🙂
The QUEEN of the style queens! Lupita Nyong’o came straight from a fashionable fairytale to the Oscars Red Carpet. She was among the first guests to arrive and I’m sure all the other actresses who saw her picture on twitter said something among the lines of: „Oh f***, all this fuss for nothing“. Because next to Lupita, it was really hard to stand out this time. Great job girl! And congrats to the Ocars, of course:)
Amy Adams chose a minimalistic navy blue dress for the Oscars, which was pretty enough, but honestly, a bit boring. She could have done better.
dress: Gucci Premiére
Amy at the Vanity Fair Oscars party channeled something like a glamorous Hollywood-Greek goddess. Something was missing, though. It didn’t take my breath away.
Dress: Carolina Herrera
This was one of those more original unexpected choices from the red carpet. I liked Anna Kendrick a lot in this black-burgundy ensemble.
Dress: J. Mendel
Anna Kendrick did something right this evening. She was different, stylish and unique. I was wondering who would choose this dress for the Oscars and she wasn’t my guess, I admit, but she looks gorgeous.
Dress: Atelier Versace
Anne Hathaway is one of those stars that let me down yesterday. I expected her to wear something more original for the Oscars, because otherwise I love her style. But yesterday, it was kind of…blah. At least it seems she’s having a good time, so let’s give it to her this time 🙂
Dress: Viktor & Rolf
I love how young starlets have the ability to mix things up with their unique sense of style. Allison Williams is young, fun and gorgeous in this simple but totally extraordinary pink frock.
Dress: Emilia Wickstead
Am I the only one or is this dress the black-and-silver version of the last year’s pink one? From all those amazing dresses to choose from, she picks the exact same type as for the last Oscars… Ah Anne…
And the Somali pirates came to say hi to the Oscars, too!:) How nice of them 🙂
Oh, this one is always a treat. Can there be anything wrong about him? 🙂 Although I have to say I like Benedict more with darker hair.
Oh, the king and queen of Hollywood. I’m delighted to see Angelina in anything but black, so this is really wonderful. I love her glamorous dress and her glamorous husband, too 🙂
Dress: Elie Saab
Best actress winner Cate Blanchette couldn’t go wrong with this beautiful romantic gown. It absolutely suits her style and she looks wonderfully etherical and feminine, although that’s not very surprising (nor bad) in her case.
Dress: Armani Privé
Charlise Theron in a dramatic gown by Dior was one of those more inspiring stars from the Red Carpet. I don’t like the color very much, but what can you do?
Diane Kruger brought some original high fashion to the Oscars afterparty 🙂
Dress: Valentino Couture
Elisabeth Banks rocks in this Jenny Peckham number! Maybe it’s the blue, maybe it’s the feathers, but I’m totally into her!:)
Oh, Emma. Such great things are expected on her and she could really shine on the Oscars, but somehow I guess she decided it wasn’t her night (or something). So she wore a grey(!) and black boring dress and ageing hairdo. Big disappointment of the night.
Dress: Vera Wang
I love green and I love Elie Saab, so this is definitely a win-win!
Hair – brushed. Tux – ironed and clean. Bow- narrow. Everything in place and Jared is finally in black tie! Or a red bow, as it is…
One of the prettiest ladies of the night! And finally a star of her own again. After the last year, when Jennifer Garner was supporting her man, Ben Affleck, she is her own star again in this beautiful 20’s style gown! Adorable!
Dress: Oscar de la Renta
Jennifer Lawrence traditionally in Dior, but after last years wow-ness of her Oscar outfit, even the nice color doesn’t save this one from being a bit…boring. Sorry Jennifer. Otherwise you’re really beautiful.
Dress: Dior Couture
The second Jennifer’s dress of the night was shorter, sparklier, more sexy and youthful, but somehow it doesn’t do the trick for me. Dior suits her more in my eyes…
Dress: Tom Ford
Jessica Biel in Chanel
Julia Roberts proofs that black doesn’t have to be boring! Yay! Her lace gown was feminine, wonderful and she looked absolutely gorgeous!
Dress: Givenchy Couture
Julie Delpy in Jenny Peckham dress.
Very chic. Very sexy. Very „Hollywood“. Very Kate Hudson.
Dress: Atelier Versace
And finally someone in the Zuhair Murad couture dress I’ve been dreaming of! I expected more of this on the red carpet, but nearly all of the actresses went for a boring safe option. I’m glad Kate went against them! She is flawless!:)
Leo is still waiting for his big moment on the stage, but we love him more than ever.
The latest Hollywood style icon that beat them all – go Lupita!
Dress: Miu Miu
What. Happened. Here??? Is this really the gorgeous blonde from The Wolf of Wall Street? Really hard to believe that she could be hiding somewhere in this Mortisha…
Ok, ok, you were good Mathew. And you had to go through hell to loose all that weight for the film, but I would give the Oscar to Leo anyway! 🙂
Beautiful and classy (although of course quite expected) Meryl Streep in Lanvin.
Naomi Watts in Calvin Klein Collection.
Aren’t they fabulous?:)
Is she made of ice cream or is it just me?
Happy Pharell in happy shorts on the happy red carpet.
One of the most beautiful dresses of the Oscars – Portia Rossi.
Dress: Naeem Khan
I’m not in love with this look. It makes Reese Witherspoon look smaller and bigger and not in a good way…
Sandra Bullock chose the classical look for the Oscars. I liked her better when she experimented a little.
Dress: Alexander McQueen
This dress is exactly something I would imagine Zooey Deschanel wearing!:) She’s always fun. Like!
Dress: Oscar de la Renta
